Gracious Father,
Division and disunity are all around us. And in us as well.
For as much as I want to love and respect those who disagree with me politically, this is harder than it seems. Because the right path is so obvious to me, how can they not see it? They must have blinders on. Not me.
Help me to see past my own set of blinders to truly love my neighbor, even if they voted differently from me.
If Vice President Harris prevails in the election, may you grant her wisdom to govern with justice and equity. May her talk of respect of those who disagree not merely be hollow political speak, but true conviction.
If Donald Trump is reelected, may you steer his heart away from policies of vindictiveness and hate. May the church not be seduced by him any longer, but wake from its Trumpian stupor.
I confess my lack of faith that you are in control. Help me to remember that you are the one who controls all things, that works all things after the council of your will.
We don’t deserve good leaders. But I pray that, in your mercy, you will give them to us.
I pray for a peaceful transfer of power. I pray that lies about stolen elections will fall on deaf ears.
Above all, give me a heart to love my neighbor. Help me not gloat in victory or despair in defeat.
Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
